October Monthly Business Meeting
It's meeting time again, Sat. Oct. 15th, 1-3pm at the Yellow Cab building (700 E. 4th Street). Topics will include the redefining of board roles for the organization, updates on the forms we are creating (Event rental and Studio rental), building rental pricing, and discussion of Building policies. In addition we will recap everything that has happened in the last month (our last meeting was the same weekend as Ladyfest). as well as discussion of the upcoming Tailgate of Terror and other fun things!
September Monthly Business Meeting
Come catch up on what has happened at the Circus in the past month, and is happening in the next month. Most important topic will be discussing, and hopefully approving, the new event rental policies, as well as a discussion of tenant rental policies, and general building guidelines. I'm sure there will be discussion about Ladyfest (which happens on the 16th and 17th so come for the meeting and stay for the event!) and any other topics people want to bring up - we should figure out a show for October 1st Friday in the gallery at Yellow Cab.
Monthly Business Meeting at Yellow Cab
Time for the August Meeting, agenda items will probably include Lily's Skate Party recap, Ladyfest updates, updates on our trash and electric, some sort of discussion on the Vectren issue, updates on Jennie's kiln... hopefully, we will also have lease documents for the tenants and rental agreements for the general rental of Yellow Cab to review.
Monthly Circus Business Meeting
Hi all,
Just a quick note to let you know that this month's business meeting will be held Saturday July 16th at the Yellow Cab building at 700 E. 4th Street. Plenty of things on the agenda including Lily's Skate show, our continuing development of policy for the Yellow Cab building, discussing our facebook presence, along with this month's successes! A bunch more will probably be added - so make certain you come and learn what the Circus is up to and add your input!
UpDayton's Action Plan Update Meeting
Over the last two months the teams that launched at the 2011 Young Creatives Summit have been working to turn the Summit ideas into reality. Don’t miss this chance to connect with the action plan volunteers and join their causes. ALSO, artists from the Blue Sky Project will be joining us for some light snacks and drinks, plus the evening will feature a special performance from the actors at Free Shakespeare. RSVP to Yvette Kelly-Fields at yvette.kelly-fields@updayton.com.
Pecha Kucha Night Dayton, Vol. 7
It's time again for another Pecha Kucha night - this time to be hosted at our own Yellow Cab building. What is Pecha Kucha?
Monthly Circus Business Meeting and Sideshow 6 post-mortem
Come tell us the good and bad things about Sideshow 6, there is always room for improvement - we will also start having discussions about how to use Yellow Cab moving forward.
The meeting will be held at the Yellow Cab building at 700 E. 4th Street.
Sideshow 6 is coming!
THE EASEL@GardenStation ~ 2011
As THE EASEL is nearing its forth warm seasons at Garden Station I am happy to report that it did survive its third winter quite well thank you. Still I feel the structure is due: (1) a paint-job (2) a minor wood overhaul (3) a slight modernization. ~ 1. the color I have selected is called: "International Orange" and is known by most of our citizens as the color of the "Golden Gate Bridge" in San Francisco CA. ~ 2. some of the wood panels are in need of replacement and a new stain veneer the color of which will be determined after the aforementioned paint job. ~ 3.
Monthly Circus Business Meeting at Hope Church
It's almost time for another meeting - topics to be covered will be the Sideshow and the start of the season at Garden Station, plus more. The address is 500 Hickory Street in South Park.

Monthly Business Meeting - where should we have it?
Time again for our monthly business meeting - I was going to suggest that we have it at Garden Station if the weather is warm enough, or we could go across the street and have it in the Yellow Cab building and walk through it again or we could have it at Hope Church and get filled in on the progress of the screen print studio
Monthly Business Meeting at Garden Station
Come find out what is going on with the Circus and Garden Station, always something new afoot. Updates on the Yellow Cab building and more! See the new Amy Kollar Anderson mural. See you there - if it is too cold or rainy the meeting will be held at Hope Church.
September Circus Meeting
Time again for our monthly meeting - a chance to recap all the stuff that is going on, talk about Kidtee's Found Art Show, and discuss the Yellow Cab building (hopefully we will have toured it by then) plus whatever else needs talking about...
Found Artshow
So I was unable to make it to the last meeting I have been Swamped with work and all sorts of things that make me smile everyday.
Actually I am unable to make it meeting from now on due to having shoots booked just about every Weekend.
Here is what I need to make this years found art happen
Say 30 For Flyers ( Or If I can E-mail the flyer to someone who is willing to print them at the space then we can do that)
and I need 75 for sound.... We are using C{Space house sound since there are full bands playing.
So Total $105 C{Space is Handling Bar and not charging me a rental Fee
Rich host's #107 @

where else? The fire-pit @GardenStation on 08/20/2010. According to my very astute record keeping, the fire on Sunday was my 107th; hence a new stash of logs for all.
Still, there were many other campfire's where I was not present so our very proud record of safety continues. GOOD JOB Everyone!

"Loboe's" East Dayton Men's Club donates
To Garden Station two Stage Gates with labor and a P/U bed of seasoned Ash fire-wood. Yummy, yummy, yummy, I got love in my tummy (est. value of both donations: $1200)
Many thanks to David, E.J., and Jeffo for the help in unloading and storing of material until the decision making process's are over.
"Solar Pizza" - July, 2010 . . .
Are we really headed toward 400 degree temps & a Venusian atmosphere as per Stephen Hawking's predictions?
Could pizza look and be cooked like this someday? On an EASEL@GardenStation?

New Art upon THE EASEL . . .
@GardenStation titled "Solar Pizza".
It was hard to finish after finding out about the stolen items from our shed but I did, such as it is.
I'll try to get an image up soon . . . . peace
Monthly Business Meeting
Saturday is our monthly business meeting held at the Hope Church Studio. Topics to discuss include the Sideshow, the new grant for the Stage in Garden Station, how to make the studio usable and any other topics people want to bring up. We could also hold the meeting at garden station if people were up for it...
"saxeT"
THE EASEL@GardenStation's newest installation . . .
is titled: "saxeT". I had planned more color for the piece but by 1st Friday @5 I had to call it quits as Paige does Dayton was on her way to the stage and I had to clear it with her so . . . .
Hopefully I will have an image posted or, in the Spirit of cooperation (MatheoDJ?) someone who's in control of this Web site will post one as my camera can't get on anymore for some bizarre reason.
URBAN Nights upon THE EASEL@GardenStation . . . .
Try as I might, I was unable to upload an image of this canvass to this post but it is on facebook.
The image is primarily designed for night-time viewing but may be seen in the daytime as well.
the}easel at gardenstation (a public access project) . . .
the}easel at gardenstation is a smaller version of THE EASEL@GardenStation and is designed for Public Art projects and accessed during our various events.
The Artist Rich "Loboe" Lober' will help facilitate initially and demonstrate for a time over the Spring & Summer 2010.
the}easel can be seen in action during First Friday & Urban Nights, RRFM, etc, . . . .
PURPLE MARTINS! (maybe)
I installed two gourds at Garden Station for Purple Martins to nest in (hopefully). An interesting fact of this most favored bird is that the Male helps out in it's domestic engineering duties.
GARDEN STATION also now on www.theartsmap.com
The Garden & THE EASEL each have a listing on www.theartsmap.com The First organization in Dayton, Ohio to do so.

"Maybe Later" . . .
. my latest piece upon THE EASEL@GardenStation actually turned out not as "White Lies & Picket Fences" which is yet another theme for my Art which may be later.
frustration part II
. at the original date of your post (June 22, 2007), GardenStation was not yet a formal project. I truly do feel 'ya girl; it can be frustrating to have plans grander than ourselves; only to find poor, poor me, left all alone with (I felt) a good idea.
But then, here comes The Really Really Really Free Market which is a concept of more than marginal utility.
I know & I know folks really do appreciate the RRRFM and the event will become a forum should you choose to carry on my wayward friend.
Here's an idea everyone can work on: keep members excited about the life of The Circus!

GardenStation Sustains Severe Wind Damage !! (>Once again my dear's<)
Including "Wallet", the sculpture installed November 5th by yours truly. As is my custom, I stopped by the station only to find numerous Art installations damaged. Most unsecured items were found turned over or in unusual positions similar to the storm of September 2008. As in that storm, I did what I could to prevent further destruction today as well.
It was to late for my beloved "Wallet" & "Black Heart" however, as the two piece's had become horribly twisted & broken by the forces of nature.

Everyday a Blank Canvass { R )
A Sister for Dayton's GardenStation ?
The sister city concept is of course, not new. But there has always been something said for two areas miles apart, developing an affinity for each other to form a common bond. A family of Artist's from Rapid City S. Dakota, known as: ArtAlley has invited GardenStation to form such a bond.
To see ArtAlley and their version of urban Artspace please Google them online: artalley rapid city sd

"Wallet"
THE EASEL@GardenStation which recently featured: "Foreplay!!" by Richard D. Lober', from September 11th - November 1st, 2009, is now basking in the luxury of Richards newest Art a piece entitled: "Wallet". This latest creation of Art was installed November 6th, 2009, at 3 p.m., in time for First Friday. "Wallet" is of wood and metal.
A Fond Farewell for Maya Caballero
As we know, Maya has been a real trouper for The Dayton Circus Collective & GardenStation. Maya's musical style captured the flavor of the garden with the big city flair of her New York City roots. The Urban Night patrons who happened to pass by the Station during her performance that night almost to a person, strolled on in to hear more.
Captivated by her limitless beauty, the small but appreciative audience felt the emotion & power of a songwriter who's truly been time-tested and traveled.

Anything else?
a little something on things
If everything weren’t piling up all around us we would have nothing to kick out of the way.
I think as frustratingly as not having my own computer or camera its still just another bump to try and remove from the course or find a way around it.
So I have been rebuilding and starting all over again. As it is part of life and in many ways, a blessed experience to recreate what you are doing with yourself.
things we need for the space
if you have any of the bellow please let us know or you can call me kidtee directly
also if you can donate you time to sew, clean, paint, or help do inventory on monday 3-8:30, tuesdays3-8:30, thursdays9-5, or on saturday from 12-5
in no specific order we need
two boxes lockable for donation one for inside the space and one for directly outside the space the need to be mountable, pad lockable, and a plaqce to stick money in
A safe of sorts for money paper work and gift cards
container small to medium we don't need any large ones they need to fit on shelves
Give Kidtee access to 200 dollar to beautify the space, make it more usable, and to get basic suplies?(see post for details)
I need funds for our space
I need some basic things some hardware.... hinges maybe some paint(bright colors to liven the space), bolts and nuts, a lock box(to keep donations as the come in and petty cash... currently not locked up), two boxes with pad locks one inside the door and one directly outside the door for donations to the circus and materials to attach them....
we need storage containers that will fit onto the shelves..... curtain rodes..... and maybe curtains or larger pieces of fabric...... and also decopadge to so that we can get done with the tables....
C.I.R.C.U.S.- Our Space
Our Space- a place for us to have a home.... I KNOW ITS LONG BUTS ITS KINDA IMPORTANT SO PLEASE READ!
The last few years, for too many of you it hasn't felt that way or to me......but it can and should
We can make this space awesome! Though small in many ways the possibilities are great! at the next meeting I would really like to discuss what is bellow....
I have a plan somewhat loose, but thought out as much as possible.....
there are steps and things that must come first.....
All aboard the FAILboat (kinda)
Well, to all of those who doubted me... um, you know me better than I know myself.
Raks Update
Well, the meeting went OK. We're on for Raks Mystique, but we'll need a couple more volunteers... more on that later
From Anne R:

Kidtee
110 3rd st viewing!!!
So I spoke with Paul on the phone he asked me to spread the word that he will have a few spaces available for rent on the cheep and they are very nice...
his number is 937-545-7185.... call if you interested..... no live ins within these spaces he is working on another project will that will be a possibility.....
Okay about the space I think the circus er us should take a real serious look at.... its purfect.....
110 3rd st.
Should we get a wide format printer for D'Art and Promotional materials? Laser or Ink Jet?
my thoughts on the current issues
I been with the circus and the sideshow since it started.....
I remember me, laurana, and Mike Officer being there just about everyday working......... trying to trust in laurana's vision and man I am glad I did.... to me allot of the issues with attendence and trust and things like that are more a question....
do I trust the other members... well yes I do but the may not have the same opinion as I do..... so here is what I think....
What is the real issue..... attendance not quarum.... people don't want to come out anymore we have in many ways lost site of what our goals are...........
Thinking out side our own creative box.....
So on a gut feeling I called about a space..... its located at 110 E 3rd st.....
I looked in and Wow what a great feeling so... I called the number on the poster in the window....I have never done this and I was so nervous.... I don't deal with these kinds of things well.... I felt bubbles in my stomach..... I know in my head we need a downtown pressence.... we need a space that is our and a place where we can grow....
We just got a place at front st I know this.... and this is where I ask to keep an open mind.....
Transparency
The feedback I've been consistently receiving as of late has been that I need to be more transparent. To that end, let me bring you, dear reader, up to date on a couple of things I've been doing that are circus related.
Raks Mystique is gonna be awesome! If you'd like to be involved with the process of producing the night, please join our google group.

Is this something for Circus?
I just received this email from Jacquellyne Buck. is this something Circus should have a presence at?
email as follows:
You’re Invited!
Who? “Art with Attitude”
When? Wednesday, April 23, 2008 6:00pm – 8:30 pm
Where? Benham's Grove
166 N. Main Street, Centerville
What? A gathering of all interested art organizations, galleries, artists and supporters.
Why? The objective is two-fold….
Chainsaw
It says in the descriptiuon of solicitations and opportunities "Need to borrow a chainsaw?"
I had to take my chainsaw apart after the flood, and took the opportunity to get it into tip-top shape. If anyone ever does need to borrow a chainsaw, I've got one!
Front Street Space?
What do ya'll think about renting a space for The Circus at Front Street?
Much of what we want to accomplish with our building is already going on here. Front Street needs a communal space! This place is ALIVE, but it's difficult to connect with everyone here. There are so many locked doors...
Front Street would be a great experimentation ground for the things we want to do in our own building. It would also be cheap to rent here.
Any thoughts?
I changed the "Membership" Group to "The Voting Pool"
See here:
http://www.daytoncircus.org/?q=node/259
The word "Membership" has an exclusive connotation that has already confused many people in the past. Words have power, so I decided to change "Membership" to "The Voting Pool". Is this cool with everyone? Any other suggestions for different terminology?
